Interactive Bench

2009.

The task was to create an object for public space inspired by nature. My goal was to create an object to interact with, that somehow would mimic the movement of nature. The inspiration was taken from the fleeting water ripple. When a drop hits the surface ripples quickly spreads across the surface to slowly disappear. It represents a temporary interruption in the natural state of things.
The result is a bench for a park environment capturing the movement in nature. The bench invites the user to interact with it. The circular track informs the user that it can be set in motion to create circles in the sand by pushing its ends. The circles raked up is as temporary as the water ripple and disappears when moving around inside the rail.
